Bogo: The Neighborhood Shadow
Bogo: The Neighborhood Shadow
Bogo, a ~3-5 year old black male, was found in October 2025. This boy would greet and follow absolutely everyone around the block when we first met him! Way friendlier than your average stray.
First Impressions
Bogo was a street cat who we, along with other neighbors, cared for over a few months. We got to know his routine, left food out, and watched him follow people around the block. One day he was bitten and needed help.
The Loving One
Bogo's personality is pure love:
- Greeted everyone on the sidewalk
- Sought out laps and pets at every opportunity
- Never demanded much, just wanted presence
Patience Through Recovery
After he was injured, we helped a neighboring family take him in and provided food and a heated outhouse so Bogo would have a warm, sheltered place to recover. Over the following weeks he put on weight, his confidence returned, and his playful side came back bit by bit.
The Adoption
As Bogo recovered, the neighboring family decided to keep him — what began as communal care turned into a permanent home. They gave him the warmth, food, and attention he needed, and Bogo settled in as their beloved pet. His new family recently gave him a beautiful new name: Salem. Last we heard, Salem (formerly Bogo) is thriving in his forever home, continuing to be the loving shadow he's always been.
His Legacy
Bogo reminds us that love isn't always flashy or demanding. Sometimes it's quiet devotion. Sometimes it's just wanting to be near. And sometimes, that's exactly what someone needs.
Side Note
We call him "Bogo" because we originally saw him running around the neighborhood with another black cat who we assumed was his brother. His brother is still somewhere out there and is much more skittish and shy than Bogo.
